Windstorms can cause damage to home owners but there are things you can do to reduce your risks.

The best course of action is to not let the maintenance on your roof be neglected.  Insuring that metal flashings and fascias are fully anchored can limit the amount of damage during a windstorm. When installing a new roof ask your contractor if they hand nail or use nail guns to install the shingles. Hand nailing is more secure but properly setting the amount pressure on a compressor can ensure the right amount of force is used to secure the shingles. For more exposed slopes “storm nailing patterns” can greatly reduce the risks of shingles being torn off in a storm. This is done by double nailing the shingles totally 6 nails per shingles instead of four.
